Dr. Udi Sommer

Udi Sommer is an associate professor of Political Science at Tel Aviv University. He is a member of the Global Young Academy since 2019 and of the Scientific Council of the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center and the Center for the Study of the USA at Tel Aviv University with the Fulbright Program. Dr. Sommer was Chairperson of the Israel Young Academy from 2018-2019 and co-chaired the Israeli Cyber Forum at Columbia University while teaching political science at Columbia from 2016-18.

 

He has published 3 academic books and over 30 peer-reviewed articles. With Or Rappel-Kroyzer, he developed the Pandemics and Politics Project, where a range of topics on the interface of politics and pandemics are studied. Those run the gamut from simultaneity between elections and COVID-19 and the politics of vaccination campaigns to emergency politics during pandemics, among others. Udi is a recipient of several grants and fellowships including the Marie Curie Grant from the European Union, Fulbright Doctoral Fellowship, and the National Science Foundation Grant. 

 

Udi appears as an expert commentator on WKGO San Francisco, Israeli TV Channels 11, 12 & 13, Christian Science Monitor, Haaretz.com (English), Ynet, Haaretz newspaper, Galatz Israeli Radio, and Knesset TV Channel.
