Welcome to the multidisciplinary Center for Combating Pandemics of Tel Aviv University. This is the first center of its kind in Israel and possibly the first such center in the world.
The Center's unique strength derives from the culture of creativity and innovation of the Tel Aviv University scientific community, the multi-disciplinary nature of the university, and its close connections with hospitals, industry, and government.
The Center will focus on the following activities in order to improve society's ability to cope with present and future pandemics:
- Supporting research activities focused on combating pandemics, such as the development of diagnostics, vaccines, and therapeutics.
- Generating high-quality, data-driven research on social and economic consequences of pandemics to provide policymakers with the best information on how to design targeted interventions to deal with the effects of such huge societal disruptions.
- Contributing to the abilities of society in Israel and globally to overcome crises by providing data for economic and societal resilience when facing various pandemics.
The Center will promote these efforts by creating committees and think tanks of experts, organizing domestic and international workshops and conferences, and by encouraging international collaborations.
The inauguration of the Center was made possible by generous donations from several benefactors including the founding donor and Honorary Doctor of Tel-Aviv University, Mr. Frank Lowy, Tel-Aviv University Board of Directors members Kathy Fields-Rayant and Dr. Garry Rayant, The Milner Foundation, and Yad -Hanadiv Foundation.
