Prof. Dafna Benayahu

Prof. Dafna Benayahu is a professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University

She completed her Ph.D. at Tel Aviv University, post-doctoral training at the Weitzman Institute of Science, and Visiting professor at the NIH.

She joined the faculty at Tel Aviv University in 1996. Since then she served on numerous University committees, was the head of the Department, and a Senate member.

 

Research Interests:

Prof. Benayahu's research interest is related to the mesenchymal stem cells differentiation and related pathophysiology of skeletal and fat tissues.

The mesenchymal cells are the main regulators of immune cells in the bone marrow. The application of these cells is related to metabolic disease and tissue regeneration.

The relation to the center of a pandemic is due to their role in the world pandemic of obesity and diabetes and recently linked these conditions to the pandemic of COVID 19.
